All learner training includes the free use of automatic scooters, manual 125cc, 500cc and above motorcycles. Safety helmet, jacket and gloves can also be supplied if required.
We have an excellent DSA approved off road site with facilities, including classroom, toilets, hot food and drinks.
We provide training from CBT through to DAS and onto post test assessment and training, as well as back to biking courses. If you have a full licence for another type of vehicle, such as a car, you will almost certainly have provisional entitlement for motorcycles on it. From there you can take a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course and you can then ride a motorcycle of 125cc with L-plates (or a moped if aged 16) on the road. You can continue your motorcycle training on a 125cc bike through to test. If you pass your test on a 125cc motorcycle you are restricted to a motorcycle with a power output of 33bhp or less for 2 years, then you may ride any size of motorcycle.
If you are 21 or over you can take your motorcycle training and test on a larger bike under the Direct Access Scheme or DAS. The main advantage of this is that once you have passed your test you can then ride any motorcycle you wish. You will also have to pass a theory test before attempting the practical test, although if you have already passed a moped or motorcycle test for another sub category you may be exempt from the theory test.
A theory test is not required for CBT, however all riders must pass the theory test before taking the practical tests. When attending for training you will require both parts of your driving licence (if new style), valid for the machine you wish to ride. If you wish to use your own motorcycle for the training then you will need to bring along your insurance certificate and MOT if applicable. Your motorcycle will also need to be taxed. For full licence training you will need to bring along your CBT (DL196) and theory pass certificate, if applicable. If you need glasses for driving then you will need to bring these with you as we will need to test your eyesight.
Why learn to ride a motorcycle?
There are many good reasons for wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle, which could be in connection with work, commuting to and from work or riding purely for fun, whatever the reason, the one thing you can be certain of is all motorcyclists derive a great deal of pleasure from riding. We have all been stuck in a car, in traffic, on a hot day, wishing we could do what the guy on the bike who had just filtered pass us was doing, enjoying the unhindered journey knowing you will arrive at your destination on time. Imagine a ride-out with friends during a warm summer’s day through beautiful countryside or even a trip down to the coast.
Cheap transport costs are also another big plus point, as is no hassle parking, it is easy and you never need to pay, step off your bike and step into work, or the shops or anywhere you wish to go, there are no congestion charges, you can use the bus lanes (where permitted) all of these advantages and more are available to you, as well as doing your bit towards making our country that little bit greener.
Today’s machines are very safe, comfortable and reliable, no matter what you ride you can expect one of the best thrills legally available, and it really is the only way to travel whatever the weather on today’s busy road network. When you become a motorcyclist you open a whole new world, a world full of friendly, likeminded, free spirited people who will always wave to you when passing and always talk to you wherever there is a gathering of bikers.
There are very few downsides to riding, one being the weather, but with proper clothing you can be warm and dry no matter how inclement the weather may be. Another one is the obvious danger associated with being on two wheels, unlike a car you do not have the protection of a metal cage around you, of course this is where the proper selection of protective clothing is so important, giving that protection if needed.
A very important factor in your safety is the selection of the right training establishment, with DSA Qualified Instructors that can train you to the high standards required by today’s busy roads. This is where we at Learn2Ride offer exceptional training with no compromises from start to finish. We employ tried and tested procedures to provide you with all the experience required, not only to prepare you for the practical tests, but to prepare you for when you have that precious bike licence, ready for when you are out on your own without the security of our instructor watching over your safety. Our courses are much more than just a route to your bike licence, they will teach you defensive riding techniques which can only come from instructors who themselves have spent many years riding. The whole experience with us will be fun, informative and thoroughly enjoyable, but above all you will receive training of the highest standards. So, if you have been putting off going for your bike licence now is the time to pick up the phone and book your course, we will look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful world of motorcycling.
