All our direct access bikes are now fitted with hot grips, so no more cold hands. Our Facebook page is now up and running so please visit and like us on FB. This month we welcome Phil Hartles to our training school. Phil is a very keen motorcyclist and is a qualified IAM observer who is on an instructor training course with us, we look forward to having Phil on board. The weather over the past few weeks has been pretty awful but we have been able to keep busy, even if we have got wet. On the upside it can’t get any worse, can it? I say bring back the drought.

In readiness for the 3rd European Directive we have placed enquiries for a brand new fleet of motorcycles. We hope to place orders within the next couple of weeks and have the new bikes prepared and available for training from early May 2012. Our existing well maintained modern bike fleet will remain in use at least until the 3DLD comes into force on the 19th January 2013. We are also looking at the feasibility of introducing a range of automatic motorcycles to our fleet in the near future.

When the 2nd European Driving Licence Directive (2DLD) came into force in April 2009 it dramatically changed motorcycle training and testing like never before. It very much placed the emphasis on making the rider much more prepared for the modern day roads. This made gaining your bike licence more difficult than beforehand . From 19th January 2013 the 3rd European Driving Licence Directive (3DLD) will come into force, and will offer a tier type of training. To gain direct access (DAS) to a full unrestricted motorcycle licence you will need to be over 24 years of age, after 19th January 2013. The training and tests will have to be carried out on a motorcycle with a cubic capacity of at least 595cc with an engine power of at least 40kW (53.6bhp). Training will also become more expensive for DAS, due to the increased cost of providing larger motorcycles to carry out the training and tests. So, if you are 21 or over, this year is your last chance to gain your full motorcycle licence before the changes come into force making it more difficult and expensive to take the DAS route to your licence. Call (01908 321031) or email us (learn2ridemotorcycle@gmail.com) to secure your booking without delay as we are already experiencing an increase in bookings for DAS courses.

In line with our commitment to continuous development of the business, there are a number of changes being made at our training school during 2012. We shall be adding brand new motorcycles to our fleet, and to make more room for our fleet of motorcycles we shall be moving the current onsite motorcycle storage into a larger onsite storage facility. As a consequence our training area will be increased in size, with plans for further site expansion in the pipeline. Also for the 2012 season we are replacing all our safety equipment with all new helmets, gloves, jackets and hi-visibilty waistcoats. We have all new paperwork that can now be electronically sent at the time of booking. These are just some of the changes we are making to give our customers even better value for money.

One candidate failed the same test twice and passed on his third attempt, meaning we only had one candidate not acheiving a first time pass, making our first time pass rate for May 2011 of 88.89%. All those taking the theory test, following theory training with Learn2Ride, passed at the first attempt. Congratulations to all our first time pass candidates so far this year.
